My name is: Sister Sarah

I am: 42 years old

I am from: United Kingdom

Before I became a Muslim, I was: Agnostic

I have been a Muslim for: 14 years

I became a Muslim because:

I’d reached the point where I started to question what life is all about and realised that there has to be more than living for the weekend.
Allāh guided me gradually. As a teen I’d been atheist – with kind of a defiant arrogance when it came to religion. I couldn’t see it so therefore God couldn’t exist.
As I matured I’d describe myself as agnostic. I was open to the possibility that there could be a creator but it was of no real consequence to me either way.
Then I started to become more spiritually minded via an interest in angels. I was at a low point in my life and I feel Allāh used this as an introduction for me to accept the concept of a creator – after all, if I believed in angels how could I question the existence of God?
Around the same time I also met a muslim, who told me a little bit about Islamic beliefs and how Islam held all the answers to the ills of society today.
This got me curious, so I decided to look deeper into religion (which I’d previously regarded as merely institutions of social control rather than anything spiritual).
I visited a few churches first, then mosques and Islamic centres – where it finally all came together for me Alhamdulillah.

The best thing that has changed in my life is: I know my life’s purpose and have focus and direction Alhamdulillah.
I feel more at peace that I ever had before.

My advice to someone who is looking into Islam is:

If you believe in your heart in Allāh and his final messenger – just do it.
You won’t regret it.
Don’t wait to take the step, you can do all the learning afterwards and Allāh will make it easier for you.

Also, try to find trustworthy sources of information and limit social media. I’m grateful I wasn’t really into it at that time – because it’s a very unforgiving and confusing place for new Muslims.
